Can You Choose Your Permanent Makeup Colour? How We Decide Together

Hi — I'm Pui, the artist at N&Beauty in Bangkok. In almost every consultation I hear two questions about colour: ‘Can I choose it?’ and ‘How should I choose?’ Both have lovely answers, so let me share how I like to work.

Yes — you choose, together with me

The first answer is simple: yes, absolutely, you choose your own colour. My role is never to decide for you — it's to help you see clearly and choose with confidence. Some clients arrive knowing exactly what they want; others would like my honest guidance. Both are completely fine, and we'll take it at your own pace.

  • Yes — the colour is your choice
  • My job is to guide, not to decide for you
  • Whether you're sure or unsure, we'll find it together

How we find your shade

Here's the little method I love. I place a piece of cling film over your skin and rest the candidate colours on top of it, and we look in the mirror together — so you can see the shade against your own face before anything is permanent.

To find what suits you, I look at everything as a whole: your hair colour, the colour of your eyes, and your skin tone, and I give you my honest, objective opinion on the balance. Then the final choice is always yours. Seeing it with your own eyes, in the mirror, is the part that makes people feel truly sure.

  • We test candidate shades over cling film and look in the mirror together
  • I balance the choice against your hair, eyes and skin tone
  • You see it on your own face first — then you make the final call

Questions

A few questions I'm often asked

Yes, always. You choose, and I guide. We test shades together before anything is permanent, so you can decide with confidence.

I look at your hair colour, your eye colour and your skin tone together, and give you my honest opinion on what balances best — but the final choice is always yours.

Yes. I rest the candidate colours over a little cling film on your skin and we look in the mirror, so you can see the shade on your own face first.

That's completely normal, and it's exactly what I'm here for. We'll try a few options in the mirror and talk it through until you feel sure.

Choosing your colour should never feel rushed or done to you — it should feel like a decision we reach together, with your own eyes open and a mirror in front of you. That's how I like to work, every time. If you'd like to talk colours before you book, I'd love to help. — Pui, N&Beauty
